What Do I Bring to My Session? - How to Handle Boudoir and Erotic Photo Shoot Sessions

When booking a professional photography session, the thought of what you need to bring in order to be prepared can seem quite daunting. That's why we're created this easy guide to help shed some light on what you should expect to bring with you.

First and foremost, since we offer different types of shoots in different settings, it can be even more confusing to ensure you don't forget anything you may need. We definitely do not want you sitting upset or discouraged at your shoot, so if you're worried at all please go ahead and read on.

Boudoir:

When it comes to boudoir, the concept you're going for is a tease essentially. Outfits that are subtle yet stand out and compliment your body shape are always a good idea, and the textures of what you wear will definitely stand out in the results. Bringing a few different lingerie outfits including heels, robes, and accessories will help showcase your individuality in the end. Have a favorite lace garter set? Time to break that out sweetheart! Love your antique hair pin from the 30's? Well, why not let that make a wonderful addition to your shoot!

Prop wise, I would say that the place you book for the shoot should have soft and silky textures (much like hotel sheets) to soften the look of your photos. You could also bring your favorite throw to help bring in some new textures and patterns into the final product. With this type of shoot not being too revealing, it's more important for you to focus on the way your emotions come across on film. Practicing eye contact, hand placement, and allowing your face to convey the message you're sending is very important. There are so many vibrant people that simply clam up and get lost once the camera is pointed towards them. Don't worry though, we can easily recognize this and help coach you through it to achieve the results that you want.

Erotic:

These type of shoots vary in a big way, especially when you consider the fact that erotic photo shoots are much more revealing and typically involve some type of play/stimulation. We're strictly professionals and more than ready to capture whatever you'd like, but make sure that unless you're having us book at a dungeon rental, you'll need to bring your own supplies. The dungeons in the Chicago area offer use of their sanitized equipment, however toys are a different story. Plan for that if you decide to have us book space at one of the rentals.

Aside from a variety of outfits that showcase your body and style, it's important to get a sense of what you have planned for the shoot and bring the supplies necessary for it. Rope, cuffs, corsets, high heels, whips, paddles, toys, and accessories can heighten not only the experience but also the way your results come across. Are you a submissive looking to showcase your obedience? Make sure you bring a collar, and hey even a leash if that is your thing. Are you a Dominant looking to make an impact with your presence in photos? I suggest bringing a belt, rope, and other items that you can pose with to heighten the impact.

Exhibition Shoots:

Being cognizant of the weather during your shoot is of the utmost importance. We do outside sessions during all seasons and weather (except for extreme weather) and we know first hand that you need to come prepared for whatever season you're displaying yourself in. Extra jackets, easy outer clothing to put on and take off quickly in case someone comes by, and water to drink in the summer are very important things to remember. Having fun is obviously important, but your health and safety are too. Prioritize what you think you'll need based on season and events to take place during the shoot. You can bring toys if you would like to do an outdoor shoot, but always keep in mind to have a long jacket within arms reach considering we would be outside and cannot predict someone unexpectedly walking up, even though we do have a lookout for shoots like this!

Final thoughts:

Aside from clothing, different textured blankets and things of that nature, toys and equipment, it's important to bring yourself a snack and something to drink for during the shoot in case you need it. Don't worry, we won't work you too hard in all of the fun pretzel poses, but you should always listen to your body and plan ahead! We hope that this article helps provide some clarity on things to bring to your session with us.

See you soon!
